This will be my third time participating in the Nomad Virtual Overland Rally. This rally combines education about overlanding and hands on off road driving with “tasks” or stages that test knowledge of the off road vehicle, the environment, climate, topography and more. I participate to learn more but for some it is a competition. Each year I hope to understand some aspect of the rally. This year I hope to gain better understanding of how to use my compass including how to triangulate, read a roadbook and basic navigation using the compass.

This year’s offroad adventures have been with my good friend Wendy DiCaprio and focused on a combination of rockhounding and exploration of some of the many trails taking us to remnants of homesteads, old graveyards and other unique features not seen from the paved road.

Once again, my husband and I will be spending two months in northern AZ exploring more of the unique features of this part of the country; completing the “stages” of the rally.
