Week 8 of the Nomad Overland Rally and the competition is heating up. With six teams over the 4,000 point-level, the gaps have really narrowed. Only 22 points separate the first- and third-place teams! Team 117 Lucas has reclaimed the First Place slot with 4,925 points. Team 101 Mercer moved into Second Place with 4,905 points. Team 121 Rojas (aka DOGRNR) dropped back into Third Place with 4,903 points. The Week 8 Challenge, “Plotting with Headings,” has proved “challenging” for the teams, and only a few of them have attempted it thus far. Teams still have one more week to complete it. Meanwhile Challenge #9 was released this morning and it’s a fun one — “Wildlife Observation.”

Here are some Week 8 highlights from around the 2024 Nomad Overland Rally. Team 117 Lucas, back in First Place, is continuing to strategically go after every point, focusing on some of the more challenging navigation tasks this week. Team 101 Mercer, moved into Second Place, completing the Falken Tire Precision Challenge and some training and sponsored events this week. on activities and PhotoQuest items in Colorado. Team 121 Rojas (aka DOGRNR) dropped into Third Place, but had a very strong week that included participation in a Trail TREAD training program with Barlow Adventures. Team 124 E. Stevens completed the Falken Tire Precision Challenge this week and continued exploring around Virginia. Team 125 Schleppi continued exploring around Arizona and also participated in the Trail TREAD training this week. And most of the other Nomad Teams continued building up their points totals out on the trails in California, Oregon, Nevada, North Carolina, Virginia, Arizona, Texas and Arkansas this week!
