The Nomad Teams started Week 1 hot out of the gate, with a number of teams already out on Overland Stages and racking up points for activities. Team 117 Lucas logged over 1,000 points this week by strategically combining Stages and Activities, putting them in first place. Several other teams also picked up a whole lot of points using different strategies and checking off a lot of the easy-to-find Photo Quests. Week 1 also saw our first Team complete the Falken Tire Precision Challenge! Just one week into the event, there are still a lot of teams who haven’t begun their Overland Stages yet — they have ten weeks to do the Stages. A few teams are in the middle of travel and others are still in their planning phases. We will see a lot more adventures over the coming weeks. We were very pleased to see how well all the Teams did with Weekly Challenge #1, which focuses on Tread Lightly principles and Responsible Land Usage. This Week’s Challenge #2 will test their Topo Map Reading skills.

Here are some highlights from Week 1 of the 2024 Nomad Overland Rally as a few of the Teams got off to a quick start and were already out exploring. Team 117 Lucas was really on the gas racking up over 1,000 points while out on Overland Stages in Arizona. Team 130 McClellan hit a number of National Parks and Monuments as they made their first Overland Stages travelling across the southwest. Team 114 Dolbow started off with a different strategy by going after some of the harder-to-find Photo Quests while knocking off multiple activities. Team 118 Macy got off to a strong start as the first team to complete the Falken Tire Precision Challenge while also focusing on finding some of the wildlife. Team 129 Astor NC Old Man Overland took some time to work on their route planning, did some exploring around Kentucky’s Red River Gorge and participated in some training events, all before setting off for their big trip out to Colorado. And by the end of the week, several other Nomad Teams were starting out on their Overland Stages. Check out the Leaderboard to see how everyone ranked at the end of Week 1.
